Die Cutting

Die cutting originally started as a process of cutting leather for the shoe industry in the mid-19th century. When a die is pressed into a material it cuts the material into the shape outlined by the die. Over the years, the printing industry has adopted this technique.

Die cuts are created with a sharp steel blade formed into a specific shape. When the blade presses onto the paper, it cuts out the required shape.  Die cuts can produce any variey of shapes depending on your requirements.

A die cut brochure might have a simple curved edge or you could have a cut out on the  front cover that offers a glimpse of what’s inside. It might be shaped like the product you are trying to promote or could be combined with custom folds to create something more amazing.

Adding a small die cut detail to a printed piece can have an enormous affect on its impact. People tend to share, retain and talk about these unique items much more, therefore increasing the effectiveness of your print.
