The Apprentice – ‘You’re hired’

Investing in young people is a top priority for Optichrome so we are delighted to announce that our Apprentice James Burton has passed his NVQ qualification and is now a full time member of our production team.

James joined Optichrome in August 2016 and has obtained his City and Guilds, NVQ Level 2 in Print Finishing.

For three generations, the importance of the training and development of our employees has been crucial to our success. Our founder, Ted Stephens was instrumental in instigating a joint apprenticeship scheme involving Guildford Printing College in the mid 1970’s. Some of our original apprentices are still with us today, including our Managing Director, John Heywood and Works Manager Tony Clark.

Success in business means providing quality work and great customer service at the right price. It demands keeping up with technology and staying ahead of the competition. To do that, we need need skilled staff with great ideas, who know their jobs and understand our business priorities.

The advantages of taking on an apprentice are many, it allows us to develop a team of talented employees who add real value to our business. For the apprentice they earn while they learn and gain real skills and knowledge culminating with an industry recognised NVQ qualification and potentially full time employment. We are delighted that James has joined our team full time and we are looking forward to welcoming our next apprentice.
